There’s a certain power that comes from your gut. In some cases, that intuition has always been there. It’s a byproduct of evolution.
In matters of taste and creativity, however, it’s earned. Achieving any level of discernment requires experiencing a lesser version of one's standards.
Once you’ve seen it, you can’t unsee it.
Creativity is something that’s practiced. In essence, the creative ‘act.’
Repetition with the creative act produces creative ‘output.’ And repetition of output builds ‘skill.’ Creative skill.
This compounded over time is what builds intuition.
We didn’t wake up and choose to like the art we like. To build our true preferences, we must experience many and dislike most.
To have taste one must experience disgust, pleasure, and everything in between.
Taste and creative intuition are two sides of the same coin. Or perhaps, taste is the magnetic pull that directs your creative compass. The more you develop your taste, the stronger the pull.
So if you’re working on something, and you’re not quite sure which direction to take it, look to develop your taste.
